The following three documents must be submitted as your application for Tribal membership. The documents must be fully completed for the application process to begin.
- The first document is your application.
- The second document is a list of your children.
- The third document is your pedigree chart.
Incomplete applications will not be processed. Our researchers will investigate your findings, but you must first do the research of your own linage. You may need to hire someone to help you with that. When you have completed your application documents, make a copy of them for your records, then mail the original documents to the Tribal Office as listed on the Home Page of this website. Please include a check or money order, which is non-refundable, made to The Ouachita Cherokee.
For new members!
The processing fee for the head of house will be $ 50.00. Their children and grandchildren will be discounted to $25.00. This took effect on May 28-2022.
Helpful Hints:
(If you hold the old Western Cherokee green card, you are NOT a member with us, and we do not have any of your records. It will not be accepted as membership into the Ouachita Cherokee of Cherokee Nation West.)
The following is a list of documents you will need to send in with the 3 pages of your application.
NEW APPLICATION (you have no relatives in our Tribe)
1. Copy of your driver’s license or a photo ID.
2. Copy of your old green card (if you have one).
3. Copy of your certified birth certificate.
4. Copy of your marriage license (if you will later be enrolling your children)
5. Copies of both of your parent’s birth or death certificates. Mother and Father.
6. Copies of your grandparent’s birth or death certificates (both sides). If death certificates are not attainable, pictures of headstones are accepted, but they must be legible.
7. All information proving your Cherokee linage.
8. Any information you may have proving your Ancestors were in Indian Territory before 1851.
9. Include your non-refundable processing fee.
BLOOD LINE APPLICATIONS (for children, sisters, brothers, cousins…. with direct line to someone who is already one of our Tribal Members)
1. Copy of your driver’s license or photo ID.
2. Copy of your old green card (if you have one).
3. Copy of your certified birth certificate.
4. Copy of your parent’s birth or death certificates.
5. All information you may have on your Cherokee Ancestors.
6. Copy of your marriage license (if you will later enroll your children)

FOR ALL APPLICANT’S
Make sure your pedigree chart is completely filled out on both sides.
The Family Group Sheet is ONLY for the person applying. We need a list of YOUR children. If you do not have any children simply write …None… in pencil…as that may change at some point.
INCOMPLETE applications will not be processed until all required information and documents have been received.
We DO NOT accept DNA results for membership.
We do not do research for you; it is your responsibility to furnish the correct documentation.
You are not a member of our Tribe until all of your paperwork is approved, processed and on file in the Tribal Office.
